The motion of a body moving under the influence of gravitational forces only. A body resting on the Earth's surface is not in free fall because it is subject not only to the Earth's gravitational force but also to the supporting force of the surface.

To thin the edge of a photographic print made by abrading the back surface with sandpaper or emery paper. Also termed to feather edge.
