A chart produced by the manufacturer of a helicopter showing the conditions of airspeed related to height that produces conditions unsafe for an autorotative landing.
Industry:Aviation
A chart showing expected or forecast weather conditions. Prognostic charts are generally referred to as prog charts.
Industry:Aviation
A chart, normally included in an aircraft maintenance manual, that shows the proper control cable tension for any given ambient air temperature.
Industry:Aviation
A chart, such as a weather map, which shows the distribution of meteorological conditions over an area at a given time.

A check for the proper mesh between gears. This is done by measuring the amount of clearance between the teeth of the two gears.
One of the gears is held rigid and the amount the other gear can move is measured to determine the amount of backlash.
Industry:Aviation
A check made by the pilot of an aircraft to determine that the ignition switch is operating properly. The engine is idled, and the ignition switch is momentarily placed in the OFF position. The engine should stop firing, but the switch is returned to the BOTH position before the engine stops turning. This safety check assures that both magnetos are grounded when the switch is in the OFF position.
Industry:Aviation
A check made of a rotating shaft to determine its straightness. The shaft is supported on its main bearing journals in a set of V-blocks and is rotated while a dial indicator rests on the portion of the shaft being checked. The dial indicator measures the amount the shaft is bent.
Industry:Aviation
A check of the length of time needed for a gas turbine engine to coast to a complete stop after the fuel is shut off when the engine is operating at its idle speed.
The measured coast-down time is compared with the time specified in the engine operations manual to determine the condition of the engine.
Industry:Aviation
A check valve in the oil tank vent system that maintains an air pressure of between 3 and 6 psi on the oil. This pressure assures a positive flow of oil to the engine-driven oil pump at all altitudes.
Industry:Aviation
A check valve used in the oil tank of some aircraft reciprocating engines equipped with dry-sump lubrication systems.
Antileak check valves hold the oil in the tank against the pull of gravity, but as soon as the oil pump puts a low pressure on the check valve, it opens and allows oil to flow from the tank into the engine.
