George Clooney arrest
George Clooney, the Hollywood star, was arrested on March 16, 2012 for protesting outside the Sudanese embassy in Washington DC. Along with his father Nick, Martin Luther King III and several members of Congress, the group was protesting the Sudanese hunger crisis, accusing President Omar al-Bashir of blocking food and humanitarian assistance from reaching the Sudanese people. They were arrested by the U.S. Secret Service and taken away in plastic handcuffs outside the Sudan embassy on Massachusetts Avenue.
The protest and subsequent arrest had been orchestrated in advance. Plans for the nonviolent protest had been announced Thursday in a statement by Democratic Congressman Jim Moran, who was also arrested during the demonstration.
The group was released the same day after paying a fine. It was George Clooney's first arrest.
