Një rrymë arti në pikturë që lulëzoi nga fundi i viteve 40 dhe gjatë viteve 50, kryesisht në qytetin e Nju Jorkut (prandaj njihet edhe me emrin, shkolla e Nju Jorkut). Të shtyrë nga ideja e "pikturës në lëvizje", përkrahësit e saj theksonin metodën spontane të pikturimit si mënyrë për të shprehur impulset krijuese të pandërgjegjshme. Përkrahësit më të shquar janë Willem de Koonig, Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell, Lee Krasner, Sam Francis dhe Helen Frankenthaler.
