Smiley Culture

British reggae artist famous in the 1980s for songs such as Cockney Translation and Police Officer. Smiley, real name David Emmanuel, also had a cameo appearance in the David Bowie film Absolute Beginners in 1986.

He died in tragic circumstances from a stab wound on March 15, 2011, as police stormed his house in Surrey. The events which resulted in his death are being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
