contracontrol
The action taken by an individual in response to often powerful or perhaps troublesome control by another. When both individuals are able to arrange contingencies that strongly affect each other's behavior, reciprocity may develop. However, when contingency control is primarily available to only one member of -the pair, countercontrol will be weak and coercion or exploitation may occur. In such instances, social regulations may be necessary to protect the rights of individuals.
